Jody MacDonald is an award-winning photographer and explorer whose work spans adventure, documentary storytelling, and human connection. Over the past two decades, she’s carved a unique path photographing in some of the most remote corners of the globe; from sailing around the world for 10 years on a catamaran to riding solo across the Himalayas on a motorcycle.

Her photography career began with expedition and sport features, from train hopping the deserts of Mauritania to embedded projects across India, Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa. As a long-time contributor to National Geographic and creative collaborator for brands like Disney, Toyota, and Red Bull, Jody has developed a reputation for creating soulful, cinematic images and stories that go beyond adventure to explore what it means to belong, to be vulnerable, and to seek.

In a world driven by speed and noise, her work invites the opposite: slowness, observation, and reverence. Her images explore themes of identity, isolation, wildness, and resilience, guided by a personal philosophy that the most powerful stories aren’t staged, they’re found in the in-between.

Jody has been named one of the “25 Most Adventurous Women of the Past 25 Years” by Men’s Journal and her work has been exhibited, published, and awarded internationally. But accolades aren’t what drive her. It’s the human encounters, spearfishing with the Bajau sea gypsies or drinking chai with strangers while changing her motorcycle tire by the side of the road in the Himalayas, that continue to shape her perspective and voice.

She is passionate about using her platform to expand how we see the world and who we listen to in it, especially through visual narratives that blend the personal and the political, the wild and the intimate. When she’s not on assignment, she’s developing personal projects rooted in environmental justice, cultural preservation, and the value of being uncomfortable.
