Surfing the Sierras

Our mission was to paraglide the full length of the California Sierra Mountains in a series of connected flights, navigating hostile terrain to link onto the Warner Range and cross the border into Oregon – a distance of 800km. If successful, the route would break the North American record for cross-country distance- own vol biv-style.

Cloud Hoppers

Thanks in part to advances in wing technology, a few pioneering paragliders are smashing the limits by completing long-distance flights that were once thought impossible. Last spring, high-fliers Will Gadd and Gavin McClurg pulled off one of the most ambitious trips ever attempted: 385 miles down the jagged, frozen, potentially deadly spine of the Canadian Rockies.

North of Known

B5P4341 Edit

A 37 day full traverse of the Alaska range by foot and paraglider by athletes Gavin McClurg and Dave Turner. They had been pinned down here for 8 days in snowstorms, right on the western edge of Denali National park waiting for a flyable window to attempt the crux of the expedition- flying across Denali National Park. After 37 days of treacherous river crossings, endless bush wacking, bears and starvation they finally made their goal.

Marooned in Mozambique

MG 0047 Edit

The sun has set, we have been flying most of a day that none of us wants to end. I haven’t even thought about landing, I want to fly until I cannot see. We are still a long way from where the dinghy should be and I’m hoping it is just the light that robs us of the view. But in my gut I know we are screwed. Marooned.

Journey Through the Sahara

The goal was always to go deep into the unknkown in search of surf. Our rail journey began from an iron mining center in the Sahara, snaking through the desert toward a port town on the west coast of Africa. My aim was to try and to capture the spirit of adventure and exploration through this incredible landscape. To me this trip was about falling in love with the hardship and inevitable beauty in the process of getting there.

A couple of months ago, I had the honor to work with the Red Bull Air Force during their 2021 Training Camp. I’m not going to lie; I drank a lot of Red Bull and took a lot of Dramamine to try to keep up with these world-class athletes. They did not disappoint. Check out […]
