FAQ

Who do I contact if I would like to license pre-existing work for editorial or commercial usage?

My work is represented by National Geographic Image Collection. Please send any licensing inquiries to ngimagecollection@natgeo.com or visit natgeoimagecollection.com. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, email mail@jody-macdonald.com

Do you sell prints?

Yes! I am currently working on a new online print store. In the meantime you can email an image of the print you want to mail@jody-macdonald.com

Do you have advice for someone who is just starting out?

  • Shoot as much as you can and then shoot some more while constantly critiquing your images and trying to make them better. Great images will make you stand out but they are very hard to take and require constant critique and effort to achieve…be ok with that process.
  • Create a brand message for yourself and let it help you create a clearer vision of your work.
  • Photograph things that are important to you and that you connect with. Work in areas you feel passionate about and try to bring awareness to them in your own way and your own voice. No one will be able to replicate that and then don’t stop. Persistance is key.

What should photographers be focusing their time on today, and what should they not be?

SHOOT! If you don’t shoot you won’t learn the mistakes you need to make to become a better photographer and then share your work as much as possible. Something I struggle with and am always working on. Photographers should not be focusing on what others are doing and trying to emulate them. Like the quote goes “comparison is the thief of joy” and in order to stand out you need to follow your own style and voice. Do your own thing regardless of the social outcome.

What things should photographers be mindful of when photographing in unfamiliar environments or situations?

Pay attention to what is going on around you. Trust your gut and be respectful of the culture. Just because their way is different doesn’t mean your way is better. Spend time with your subjects, get to know them, don’t just take a photo and leave. Invest some time and a whole other world will open up to you.

What are the logistics for shooting while paragliding in the air?

I wrote a blog post on how I do it. You can find it here.
